Position:             Youth Outreach Worker– Bilingual (French and English) Full-time contract position

Start Date:         Approximately middle of August 2020

Compensation: $34,000 - $35,000

Nature & Scope/ nature et portée

The Youth Gambling Awareness Program is an education and prevention initiative designed to raise awareness regarding youth problem gambling. It is a provincial program funded by the Ministry of Health and led by the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Lead Site, in collaboration with other YMCAs across Ontario. The current position will service­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ London and surrounding area. (Please indicate this region when applying.)
With the support of the YMCA of Greater Toronto Lead Site, the Outreach Specialist will deliver awareness sessions, youth engagement activities, and community involvement initiatives in a variety of settings.
Le Programme de sensibilisation aux jeux de hasard chez les jeunes est une initiative d’éducation et de prévention dont le but est de sensibiliser les jeunes au jeu. Ce programme est dirigé par le YMCA du Grand Toronto en collaboration avec les autres YMCA de l’Ontario. Le titulaire du poste sera responsable de la région du London (veuillez préciser le nom de cette région dans votre demande d’emploi).
Avec le soutien du YMCA du Grand Toronto, l’intervenant(e) jeunesse offrira des séances de sensibilisation en français et anglais, organisera  des  activités  d’engagement destinées aux  jeunes et mettra en  œuvre des initiatives de mobilisation communautaire dans un grand nombre de contextes différents.


Responsibilities: 
  • Deliver and facilitate educational workshops on line and in person in French and English to youth (8-24 yrs) and adults involved in youth’s lives
  • Plan, organize and implement community involvement initiatives to raise awareness about youth gambling in conjunction with other community organizations
  • Design and implement youth engagement activities related to youth gambling awareness
    Develop, engage and support an advisory/partnership committee (including youth and adults)
  • Plan and chair online/in person meetings (youth groups, professionals, provincial team, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain relationships with school boards, community and youth service providers
  • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to engage local community, meet monthly targets and increase YGAP’s reach
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics related to the activities undertaken and outcomes achieved and provide monthly reports
  • Create content and support program’s online content strategy and online presence
    Attend and promote gambling awareness in community meetings and events/fairs (including but not limited to Gambling Awareness Week, Financial Literacy Week, Credit Education Week, etc.)
  • Research, and maintain up to date knowledge regarding issues and trends related to youth gambling and report learning
  • Support program’s research and development initiatives
  • Follow and implement program’s quality assurance measures
  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values, takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association and represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner
  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Travel and overnight stay as required

  • Organiser et animer des ateliers éducatifs en ligne et en personne en français et en anglais pour les jeunes (8-24 ans) et les adultes impliqués dans la vie des jeunes
  • Planifier, organiser et mettre en œuvre des initiatives de participation communautaire pour sensibiliser les jeunes aux jeux problématiques en collaboration avec d'autres organisations communautaires
  • Concevoir et mettre en œuvre des activités de sensibilisation aux jeux de hasard chez les jeunes
  • Développer, mobiliser et soutenir un comité consultatif/partenariat (regroupant des jeunes et des adultes)
  • Planifier et présider des réunions en ligne/en personne (groupes de jeunes, professionnels, équipe provinciale, etc.)
  • Établir et entretenir des relations avec les conseils scolaires, la communauté et les prestataires de services aux jeunes
  • Élaborer et mettre en œuvre des stratégies de sensibilisation efficaces pour faire participer la communauté locale, atteindre les objectifs mensuels et accroître la portée du YGAP
  • Tenir des registres et des statistiques précises sur les activités entreprises et les résultats obtenus et fournir des rapports mensuels
  • Créer du contenu et soutenir la stratégie de contenu et la présence en ligne du programme
  • Promouvoir la sensibilisation aux jeux de hasard dans les réunions et les événements/foires communautaires (y compris, mais sans s'y limiter, la semaine de sensibilisation aux jeux de hasard, la semaine de l'éducation financière, la semaine de l'éducation au crédit, etc.)
  • Effectuer des recherches et maintenir à jour les connaissances concernant les questions et les tendances liées aux jeux de hasard chez les jeunes et faire des rapports sur les apprentissages
  • Soutenir les initiatives de recherche et de développement du programme
  • Suivre et mettre en œuvre les mesures d'assurance qualité du programme
  • Démontrer des comportements appropriés en accord avec notre mission, notre vision et nos valeurs, adopter une approche axée sur les membres afin d'accroître leur compréhension des programmes offerts par l'association et représenter le YMCA et l'association de manière professionnelle
  • Comprendre les responsabilités légales et l'impératif moral de signaler les cas suspects de maltraitance d'enfants aux services de protection de l'enfance
  • Comprendre l'importance du partenariat avec le personnel bénévole et intégrer la valeur de la philanthropie et du bénévolat dans les relations avec les membres, les bénévoles, les donateurs et le personnel
  • Voyages et nuits sur place selon les besoins
  • Remplir d’autres fonctions confiées

Qualifications & Experience:
  • University degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Education, Business, Communication, Marketing or other related field
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to draft and design clear and compelling communications;
  • French language skills required
  • Experience in the delivery of public health, prevention and awareness initiatives
  • Experience with outreach activities and strategies
  • Experience in-group facilitation
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles
  • Understanding of principles of learning for both youth and adults
  • Experience in working with youth, sensitivity and knowledge in dealing with youth from different cultural and racial backgrounds and youth with special needs
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work hours, travel and overnight stays
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner with a high degree of independence
  • Experience in online communications, social media or interactive engagement
  • Must have use of a car
  • Criminal reference check is required
  • Knowledge of the community resources in the London region would be an asset
  • Knowledge of gambling issues and harm reduction principles an asset
  • Knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum an asset
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of the community including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.

  • Excellentes compétences en matière de rédaction, de révision et de correction d'épreuves, avec la capacité de rédiger et de concevoir des communications claires et convaincantes ;
  • Connaissance du français requise
  • Expérience dans la mise en œuvre d'initiatives de santé publique, de prévention et de sensibilisation
  • Expérience avec des activités et des stratégies de sensibilisation
  • Expérience en matière d'animation de groupe
  • Connaissance des principes de réduction des méfaits
  • Connaissance des principes d’apprentissage chez les jeunes et chez les adultes
  • Expérience de travail avec les jeunes, sensibilité et connaissances en matière de travail avec les jeunes de différentes origines culturelles et raciales et les jeunes ayant des besoins particuliers
  • Capacité à travailler de manière efficace et très autonome
  • Expérience en matière de communication en ligne, de médias sociaux ou d'engagement interactif
  • Doit disposer d'un véhicule
  • Une vérification des antécédents criminels est requise
  • La connaissance des ressources communautaires dans la région de et ses environs considérés comme un atout
  • La connaissance des questions relatives aux jeux de hasard et des principes de réduction des risques serait un atout
  • La connaissance du programme d'études du Ministère de l'éducation de l'Ontario serait un atout
  • Engagement à travailler dans un environnement socialement inclusif répondant avec sensibilité et conscience personnelle aux divers besoins des membres, y compris les dimensions visibles et non visibles de la diversité
