Job Description
The Department of Chemical & Biochemical Engineering is one of four departments in the Faculty of Engineering. Faculty and staff in the department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience.
Under the auspices of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Collaboration Research and Training Experience Program (CREATE), the TWNER Graduate Program (Clean Technologies for Water Refining and Nutrient and Energy Recovery Program) in the Department of Chemical & Biochemical Engineering is a multi-institutional program aimed at graduating wastewater treatment process engineers and uniquely includes a mandatory industrial internship.
The Program Coordinator handles all administrative aspects of the NSERC-CREATE-TWNER graduate program through rigorous recruitment and efficient program coordination and management.
Qualifications
Education:
- 2 year Community College Degree in business administration
Experience:
- 3 years' experience in an administrative position of responsibility
- Administrative and customer service experience preferably in an academic unit in a post-secondary institution is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of general office procedures including records management systems
- Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with a large complex group of researchers with multiple backgrounds in a research team environment
- Ability to write clear, concise procedural documentation and granting agency reports
- Strong customer service skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
- Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with students, peers and external stakeholders
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Intermediate computer skills with web design and web form design
- Experience using databases (PeopleSoft) preferred
- Welcoming of diversity and demonstrated experience working in a diverse culture
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast- paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
- Familiarity with FIPPA legislation; discretion in handling confidential student records
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its requirements
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate lab experiment schedules and Program events and activities
- Basic accounting knowledge including budgetary experience (specifically, monitoring and reconciling accounts; ensuring expenses are within budget, creating financial reports, invoicing and managing user fees for all instruments and equipment)
- Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing
