Claims Manager Position Available!
KENT & ESSEX MUTUAL INSURANCE is looking for a Claims Manager to join our leadership team. Reporting to the President/CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of approximately seven staff, resulting in quality file handling with an exceptional level of service for our policyholders.

Incumbent is headquartered in Chatham, Ontario, but responsible for adjustors who may conduct inspections or investigations within a 160 km radius of the office in Chatham.

In this role, you must be able to successfully balance two key areas of responsibility - leading your team and claims file management. You will be responsible for strategically coordinating and enhancing the work activities, performance, development, and coaching of your team while you continue throughout your day to provide superior and timely customer service to policyholders by making entitlement decisions on claims, and answering questions about claim decisions

We are looking for a person who can:
 
  • Make independent decisions by applying law and/or policy in the decision-making process.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of professionalism to provide empathetic, tactful, respectful, and courteous service.
  • Demonstrate superior organizational skills, flexibility, an eye for detail, and an ability to work independently, taking initiative to start and complete tasks without direction.
  • Effectively communicate confidential and sensitive information to a wide variety of clients, both orally and in writing, using discretion and tact.
  • Be self-motivated, client and team oriented.
  • Excellent verbal written communication skills and experience explaining complex matters, in drafting memos, letters, presentations, etc.
  • Demonstrate strong technical and insurance industry knowledge.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities when working in a team and the ability to be seen as a role model for members of the team, provide guidance and coaching.
  • Sound interpersonal, team and customer service skills in order to coordinate with multiple people simultaneously.
  • Assist with business development activities and educational seminars provided.
  • Willingness to work outside of regular office hours, as occasionally required.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
 
  • A minimum of five (5) years related experience in claims settlement, handling or management.
  • University or College degree.
  • CIP/FCIP/CRM preferred or in progress.
  • Field and multiline claims handling experience an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Claims files handling, investigation and settlement processes and procedures;
    • Claims best practices and quality file review procedures;
    • Insurance industry operations including understanding of underwriting; and
    • Claims operations practices, procedures and related systems.
  • Ability to manage, mentor and train adjustors in all aspects of claims processes.
  • Prior management experience is preferred.
  • Possess excellent computer skills with good working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and a working knowledge of IBS is an asset.
  • Ability to make decisions, establish priorities, and set strategic directions.
  • Ability to organize and deal with a variety of situations, discern problems and recommend/implement resolutions.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills, including the ability to recognize, analyze and improve claims performance situations such as loss control, customer satisfaction, employee development and engagement.
