Job Description

The mandate of the Student Experience portfolio is to encourage student engagement, support student success, and to enhance overall student life at Western.  Student Experience encompasses Indigenous Services, Entrepreneurship Centre (Propel), Sports and Recreation, Student Development Centre, Student Success Centre, and the Wellness Education Centre, which operate together to create an environment in which students can thrive and succeed. Student Experience also collaborates closely with the University Students' Council, Society of Graduate Students, and other departments across campus.
 
The Program Coordinator, Sport Western is an integral member of the Sports & Recreation Services professional team, reporting to the Manager of Sport Clubs. The incumbent is responsible for the development and administration of Sport Western programming and assists with the coordination and management of Sport Clubs at the Western Student Recreation Centre.  Working with Western Sports and Recreation and Student Experience leadership, the incumbent develops,  delivers, and evaluates Sport Western programming to ensure that active and healthy living in youth programs, campus community engagement, and student learning, development and success are being fostered. The program and service areas include, Sport Western Camps and the Wild Western Day School Field Trip Program as well as student-driven sport clubs.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   University Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation Management, or related field
-   Recreation management training considered an asset
-   Communication and/or conflict resolution training considered an asset
 
Experience:
-   3 years' experience in recreational sports administration including program development, delivery, budget management and evaluation in client-focused post-secondary environment
-   2 years' experience leading the provision of services for camp and youth programs with a focus on customer service
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Demonstrated ability to design, develop and evaluate sports and recreation programs
-   Proven ability to effectively lead and develop a large staff team
-   Superior communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills including well-developed problem-solving and conflict resolution skills; professional development or certification in this area is preferred
-   Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills in a fast-paced environment are required along with the passion and drive to consistently meet and exceed customer service expectations to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
-   Proven knowledge of the recreation management software solutions, including registration and booking software, Internet, databases, and advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheet design, and HTML
-   Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all segments of the University community
-   The incumbent must be adaptable, flexible, and resourceful when it comes to operating camp programming, for example inclement weather and having to move an outdoor program indoors
-   Must have an attitude of lifelong learning to ensure personal and professional development to remain current in the field of sports and recreation services
-   Available to work evenings and weekends on occasion (during camps 8am to 4pm and during clubs 12pm to 8pm)
