Job Description


As the academic commons of the University, Western Libraries provides the library and archival expertise and infrastructure; information resources, technology, people, and spaces; required to cultivate and mobilize knowledge, and accelerate excellence in teaching, research and scholarship.
 
The Director of Administration, Western Libraries oversees an administrative services portfolio that includes; budget and financial management, personnel administration and staff relations, workplace culture and training and development. The Director is the central point of contact for Human Resources, Faculty Relations, Financial Services and Institutional Planning & Budgeting. The Director coordinates and provides leadership for the annual budget planning submission to the University's senior administration and monitors and manages the budget throughout the fiscal year. The Director provides strategic leadership for resource allocation to maintain a sustainable library and to enhance the capacity of its people.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   Honours Bachelor degree
-   Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation
-   Accounting designation (eg. CPA, CGA)
-   Degree in Business Administration is preferred
 
Experience:
-   7 years' management and supervisory experience
-   Experience in HR related activities with direct accountability for recruitment
-   Experience in financial processes, budgeting and accounting functions
-   Experience in a unionized or public service environment, or an academic environment is preferred
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Demonstrated strong leadership abilities and team building skills
-   Strong strategic, financial planning and management skills
-   Proven strong business acumen consistently exercising sound judgment
-   Strong business insight to analyze and ascertain the most effective strategies for success
-   Proven ability to effectively assimilate information from many different sources to develop and deliver on sound strategic alternatives
-   Demonstrated analytical skills in financial and HR modeling
-   Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
-   Ability to deal effectively with all levels of an organization
-   Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage activities for self and others
-   Senior level judgment and decision making skills with a track record of innovation and results oriented leadership
-   Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and with external contacts
-   Ability to identify, quantify and recommend controls to manage operational and legal risks
-   General level of knowledge regarding university wide strategic plans
-   Intermediate level of knowledge of policies, collective agreements, legislative requirements
