Position Details:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the ideal candidate will have initiative, excellent leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively and clearly as well as have good listening skills.  This is a seasonal position starting at roughly the end of August with a second spring season opportunity.  The ideal candidate will have another source of income and will be looking to supplement their current income. The wage rate is $18-21/hour with a performance based bonus paid out at the end of a successful season.  August season to be roughly 4-5 weeks.

Position Qualifications:

·        Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role in a manufacturing or food processing setting

·        Experience in the food industry is a strong asset

·        Familiarity with HACCP or ISO 9001 is ideal

·        Must be flexible regarding shifts

·        Must have excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills

·        Some mechanically knowledge

·        Some experience in finances, budgeting and inventory control is preferred

·        Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural cycles is an asset.

·        Completed of high school/GED

Responsibilities:

·        Manage daily production activities to meet established schedules with a focus on maintaining and improving safety and quality.

·        Overseeing the planting and harvesting of the crops required in line with the production goals. Assist in the planning of the crops needed to meet production goals.

·        Ensuring quality and food safety by working within the established guidelines (Standard Operating Procedures; Good Manufacturing Practices, and HACCP) to ensure consistent product quality and food safety.

·        Schedule production labour in communication with Human Resources.  Work with Human Resources to make sure all employees are properly trained in all quality, safety and regular production procedures.

·        Work to establish a positive labour environment.

·        Provide leadership to insure company policies, work rules and processes are followed.

·        Work with Human Resources and develop work schedules to meet production requirements. Recognize and communicate problems affecting production, including staffing, quality and schedules.

·        Responsible for reporting production activity results on a regular basis.

·        Assist in the completing of the Pro-Cert forms for organic certification.

·        Assist Finance in forecasting, capital and expense budgets, and provide effective management of materials inventory.

·        Work together with Management Team in researching technological innovations.

·        Maintaining equipment. Communicate with Maintenance Personnel to determine repairs, maintenance or replacement of equipment.  Coordinate maintenance and repairs. Some mechanical aptitude an asset.

·        Work to improve production efficiencies through effective communication while maintaining respect, rapport, and encouragement to staff and management.

·        Attend meetings with company senior management in regards to production.

·        Attend training on management skills and sanitation such as HACCP.
