Job Description

For over 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area (BBBSOLA) has been supporting children and youth (Littles) in our community by providing them with a mentor, or a Big, as we call them. All our programs—whether it’s 1:1 matching or group sessions—have the gold standard of mentorship at their core.

We are looking for a new team member who will serve as a full-time Mentoring Coordinator. Essential to our brand, the primary function of this position is to provide match support to ensure child safety, positive outcomes for our Littles, constructive and satisfying mentoring relationships, and a strong sense of affiliation with BBBSOLA among all those who we serve.

As the successful candidate, you have a clear and strong social justice lens and the ability to focus on building and supporting healthy relationships as well as understanding systems of oppression and discrimination.

You jump at the chance to collaborate with others and you genuinely enjoy connecting with colleagues and look forward to working collectively.

Change is not a scary word for you. In fact, you thrive in an environment that allows you to try new things, dream up new possibilities and explore ways to better work with your colleagues, volunteers, children and their families.

· Advocate for matches, children and youth and their families

· Coordinate warm referrals for families, act as an open door to social services and support in the community

· Work collectively with the team on new and innovative program delivery ideas and initiatives while incorporating evidence based mentoring research into practice

Qualifications and Requirements

· Minimum two-year college diploma, or equivalent with a focus in social services, social work or comparable area of study

· Clinical skills of brief/crisis counselling, assessment and de-escalation techniques; experience in crisis work an asset

· Clear and empathetic understanding of poverty and systems of oppression

· Ability to create safe, thoughtful and meaningful relationships

· Keen self-awareness

· Strong problem solving and communication skills with the ability to be flexible

· Experience working with newcomer and indigenous communities an asset
