MANAGER OF STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH

JOB TITLE: Manager of Student Mental Health
DEPARTMENT: Learning Support Services
SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Student Achievement – Safe Schools & Well-Being
LOCATION: Education Centre, London
SALARY RANGE: $131,243 - $143,180 per year
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Superintendent of Student Achievement responsible for Safe Schools & Well-Being, the Manager of Student Mental Health plays a vital role in developing and facilitating the implementation of the board’s Strategic Plan for Mental Health as well as supporting the work of student well-being embedded within the Thames Valley District School Board’s Strategic Plan and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement. The Mental Health Lead job which is incorporated in to this manager position, will work with a range of stakeholders, including system portfolio leaders, school administrators and staff, students, parents and community partners to support these system priorities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use clinical experience to work within the School Mental Health ASIST framework to develop a board-wide Mental Health Strategic Plan;
- Liaise, participate in and implement all Ministry of Education expectations for Mental Health Leaders related to School Mental Health ASIST including:
o Submitting Ministry and board reports as required throughout the year on initiatives and findings;
o Contributing to knowledge exchange with Mental Health Leaders from other districts in Ontario;
- Provide board-wide direction in Mental Health and wellness promotion, education, initiatives, resources, policies, and procedures;
- Partner with the Staff Mental Health Lead to align practices to promote wellness for all staff;
- Partner and lead with the System Principal of Safe Schools on the Safe Schools and Well-Being team;
- Demonstrate leadership in the development and delivery of capacity-building learning opportunities focused on addressing student mental health needs in coordination with system stakeholders;
- Provide support and guidance to school staff and parents regarding the implementation of social/emotional or well-being programming which impacts on students’ success and well-being
- Develop and maintain relationships with children’s mental health agencies, community organizations, social agencies and professional bodies to ensure community integration with the board’s Mental Health Strategic Plan;
- Initiate and supervise collaborative work with members of the TVDSB Safe School and Well-being team to develop and support programs and interventions focusing on student and staff mental health;
- Oversee the Traumatic Events Response (TERT) team which is a team of approximately 48 trained educational and clinical personnel who are available to assist school communities when a response to a traumatic event is required;
- Be available to consult on and initiate TERT responses as they occur (weekends and evenings included)
- Participate in and share supervision of Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA)
- Represent the Thames Valley District School Board on community-based partnerships, initiatives and forums related to students’ mental health and well-being;
- Establish effective partnership/protocol processes and service delivery in alignment with Ministry initiatives and board policy and procedure;
- Plan, manage and monitor budgetary expenses with regard to Mental Health in collaboration with the Superintendent of Student Achievement.
- Supervise implementation of and collaboration on the Anti-Sex Trafficking Plan
- Supervise the clinical support staff (Social Workers and CYW’s) on the Safe Schools and Well-Being team and those in the field that are implementing Tier 1 resources on behalf of the Safe Schools and Well Being Team.
- Develop, implement, and provide professional development opportunities for staff
- Participate in personnel practices related to supervision of staff including but not limited to recruitment and selection, labour relations issues, and collective bargaining.
- Prepare reports and provide data and information as required by senior administration
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Senior Mental Health Professional with a minimum of 7-10 years of mental health service delivery experience working with children and youth (promotion, prevention, intervention, crisis and system navigation);
- Minimum of a Masters’ degree in Psychology, Psychiatry or Social Work;
- A Regulated Health Professional and registered member in good standing of a related professional regulatory body in Ontario;
- Experience working within a school board setting preferred;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in strategy development, vision setting and implementation, system coordination and implementation;
- A strong knowledge of research-based practices and an ability to effectively gather and utilize data in alignment with research ethical standards;
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team;
- Experience designing and facilitating professional learning for the purposes of building capacity with mental health professionals, educators, adults, youth, and families.
