Health Safety & Environmental Manager

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Health Safety & Environmental Manager is responsible for the set up and maintenance of a vibrant, award winning Health and Safety program.  Your goal is to ensure the Safety of all Aspire employees, visitors, and contractors. 

Description
  • Develop a state-of-the-art Health and Safety and Environmental Program for both US and Canada
  • Create and enforce policies that provide a safe work environment 
  • Liaise with the Executive and leadership team to provide best practices, analyzed data, root cause analyses, risk assessments, and the overall health and safety of the plant
  • You are accountable to train all employees on health and safety programs and work safe procedures
  • Utilize incident reporting to provide recommendations to control losses and foster a positive safe work environment
  • Perform environmental and safety compliance audits to meet required regulatory standards
  • Seek continuous improvement by ensuring that regular inspections, hazard analysis, risk assessments, and audits are conducted
  • Accountable for collecting and analyzing statistical data, recommend solutions and provide improvement plans
  • Foster positive staff relationships to gain commitment from all employees
  • Investigate incidents or accidents with a root cause analysis and provide immediate corrective action, communicate all findings to the Leadership team
  • Manage WSIB and Non-Occupational programs, ensuring a safe return to work program is in place
  • You will develop and present safety orientations for all new employees, set up a program for all visitors and contractors and advising of any potential risks
  • You will set up and facilitate all JHSC meetings, ensuring all actives are in compliance with regulatory bodies
  • You will consistently monitor Aspire’s Health and Safety program and provide recommendations, mentor, and advise on required changes
  • Provide guidance to direct reports. Complete performance reviews. Coach, mentor and advise employees

Requirements
 
  • You have 5-7 years in a similar role in manufacturing  
  • You have your Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health and Safety, CRSP, CRST or CHSC designation or in the process of obtaining it
  • You have experience setting up or implementing change
  • Having experience working in a manufacturing food environment is considered an asset
  • If required, you can work outside of your normal work schedule 
  • You can clearly communicate with all levels within Aspire Foods
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety legislation
  • You have a strong attention to detail, clearly communicate both written and verbal
  • You have a thorough knowledge of WSIB, OH&S Act & Regulations,
  • Able to work within a team with strong interpersonal skills to include leadership and collaborative influence skills
  • Well-developed computer skills
  • May require some travel, Drivers licence is required           
  • You can stand for long periods of time, use of a respirator, bend, twist, kneel, and work in extreme cold when required
