Western Retail Services' (WRS: The Book Store at Western, Books Plus, Graphics Services, and Campus Computer Store) mission is to support the best student experience at Western University. The Web Developer/Support Specialist is responsible for WRS' web technologies and system support. The incumbent develops, codes, implements and supports new and existing web sites required for our customers, staff and university community. The Web Developer/Support Specialist will provide support, administration, maintenance and configuration of all WRS' workstations, peripherals, networks, inventory management system, Point of Sale (POS) and server systems, working in conjunction with the support of system vendors/providers and Information Technology Services (ITS). Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for the configuration and installation of software and ensuring security, backup and recovery procedures are implemented, while planning and installing routine updates/upgrades to web systems, workstations, POS and servers.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or College Diploma in a programming related field

Experience:
-   2 years' retail systems support involving programming, web design and developing and hardware maintenance experience with knowledge of server implantation
-   3 years' experience using PHP, (My)SQL, HTML, CSS, IIS, Apache, XML  and JavaScript (other scripting skills an asset)
-   Experience using Drupal, jQuery and Twitter Bootstrap development frameworks
-   Experience with mobile application development is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Knowledge and understanding of the software lifecycle methodology
-   Strong knowledge of web accessibility standards, programming security practices and browser/device website compatibility and optimization
-   Solid understanding of virtualization technologies, such as VMware ESX
-   Installation, configuration, troubleshooting and management of virtual machines, vSphere and vCenter
-   Proficient in Windows operating systems, Active Directory along with understanding of Linux and Mac operating systems
-   Excellent computer aptitude and advanced skills in Microsoft programs
-   Ability to prioritize a continuous flow of incoming orders
-   Ability to identify and differentiate the symptoms and root causes of every day, defined technical problems
-   Must work quickly and accurately under pressure
-   Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
-   Ability to organize work with minimum supervision and have a keen eye for quality reproduction output
-   Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments and adapt efficiently to emerging priorities
-   Strong oral and written communication skills  to effectively interact with technical and non-technical users from internal contacts up to senior management
-   Self-motivated multi-tasker with strong organizational skills
-   Strong customer service skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
-   Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with clients, peers, vendors and external stakeholders
-   Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
-   Shift work and many unusual shifts outside normal business hours required including early mornings, evenings and weekends
-   Lifting and moving equipment and product up to 50 pounds frequently
