Prime Management Group Inc. is pleased to be partnering with WSIB in search of a strategic, and principled General Counsel to join their executive leadership team at an exciting time for the organization as they transition to their head office in London, Ontario. Reporting to the Chief Governance Officer, and Corporate Secretary, with a dotted line to the President & CEO, the General Counsel will play a crucial role in providing forward-thinking legal guidance, leadership, and direction in the development and execution of corporate legal strategies and initiatives. This experienced leader will guide WSIB through complex legal landscapes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative standards, and aligning legal services with the organization's strategic priorities.
The trusted and ethics-driven General Counsel will be responsible for the overall leadership in managing WSIB's legal programs and services, setting performance expectations, and maintaining exceptional service levels and standards. Serving as the principle legal advisor to the organization’s Board of Directors, the General Counsel will provide expert legal advice and guidance on significant and sensitive issues. Acting as the WSIB’s primary legal representative, the General Counsel will assist and advise the business in legal matters, while meticulously leading strategic planning, budget management, and collaborating with external parties and council, when necessary, in support of WSIB's goals.
The results-oriented senior leader will play a transformative role at the WSIB, merging strategic legal expertise with a commitment to excellence and community service. This pivotal position demands not just a champion of compliance and governance, but a visionary leader poised to navigate the complexities of legal challenges while aligning with WSIB's mission and values. By integrating legal leadership with strategic objectives, the General Counsel will ensure WSIB's
operations and initiatives are both impactful and sustainable, contributing significantly to the organization's legacy of support and safety for Ontario's workforce.
To excel as the General Counsel at WSIB, the ideal candidate will:
? Possess an LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) or J.D (Juris Doctor), with a preference for candidates bringing more than 15 years of relevant legal practice experience.
? Have at least 8-10 years of progressive management experience at a senior level, showcasing leadership and strategic planning abilities.
? Maintain a Class L1 Lawyer (Barrister & Solicitor) license in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada.
? Demonstrate a proven track record in legal compliance, corporate governance, and managing complex legal issues within a similar complex organizational structure.
? Have a strong foundation in legal expertise, team leadership, and the capability to navigate and contribute to WSIB's strategic goals effectively.
? Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective negotiation, conflict resolution, and the ability to foster strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
? Provide visionary and transformational leadership to the legal team and ensure that all employee performance targets are met with a high level of success.
