CLASSIFICATION:         Educational Assistant (10 month position)

LOCATION:                     TBD
           
RATE OF PAY:                $21.83 - $26.37 per hour
 
HOURS OF WORK:       Full-time: 7 hours per day
 
START DATE:                 As soon as possible
 
JOB SUMMARY: Through a team approach with Learning Support Services, the Educational Assistant will assist the student(s) and their teacher(s) with the academic program in a manner that facilitates the emotional, social, and academic growth of the student(s) according to their individual and collective needs. In addition to the specific areas mentioned in the postings, the Educational Assistant is assigned to the school location and therefore may be assigned duties outside the posting as deemed necessary by the Principal.

The EA Intervenor supports students who are deaf/blind. The Intervenor mediates between students who are deaf/blind and their environment to enable them to communicate effectively with and receive non-distorted information from the world around them. In addition, the EA Intervenor assists the students in accessing the curriculum and academic, social and physical environment, ensuring the student’s safety.
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a two year community college diploma or three year bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Developmental Service Worker (DSW) or Bachelor of Disability Studies (BSD) and a graduate of a recognized Intervenor training program (or experience as an Intervenor with training from the provincial schools branch).
