As a Senior Property Underwriter, you will be accountable for high quality underwriting of personal property insurance policies in compliance with company underwriting guidelines, while acting as a resource to other Underwriters. Using your experience, attitude, and industry knowledge, you will analyze, assess, evaluate, and determine acceptance of risks at all levels of complexity. You will have the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment and be a positive influence within our work setting.
Responsibilities
- Assess, accept, and decline submissions, within assigned underwriting authority
- Negotiate mutually acceptable terms and conditions with brokers while you develop and maintain strong relationships with those brokers and other business partners
- Review underwriting requests, provide support to brokers confirming the correct rate and clarify or explain underwriting rules to ensure they are accurately applied
- Request, review, and take appropriate action on Loss Control Inspection Reports
- Ability to read, interpret and understand policy wordings
- Provide technical support to brokers
- Participate in insurance industry functions and events in support of building broker relations and continually developing your skills
- Minimum of 5-7 years of direct personal lines property and/or farm, agribusiness underwriting experience or direct insurance experience
- CIP Designation - completed or willing to obtain
- Proven decision-making and analytical skills
- Exceptional customer service and ability to negotiate and explain key points
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong knowledge of computers, MS Office programs and the ability to learn new software with ease
- You are professional and courteous in all interactions, whether with policyholders, brokers, or co-workers
- You perform well in a busy operation, remain calm under pressure and are able to prioritize appropriately
- You are a team player who makes work fun for those working around you and with you
